Go Tribe!

*typed on 20th june 2005 tues*

Sorry i havent been blogging for ever. Been so so busy at work, and when I'm not at work, now that we have the car, we're always out somewhere. heh.

anyway, went to cleveland for the indians game yesterday evening after work. came home at 4 plus and we left at like 5.50pm knowing full well a thunderstorm was brewing up ahead. heh. reached cleveland just in time at about 6.50pm, except that we didnt know where to park, and we were low on gas. circled around and finally found the carpark, which cost us $15, sigh! but i did quite a nice reverse in parking, and we were off for the game!

some guy tried to offer us $29 tickets for $20, they were pretty good seats, right behind home base, except that we knew nothing about baseball and we were cheapskate. so we just went to the ticket counter and bought the $7 ones. heh. Jacob's field is the home of the cleveland indians, and it's H.U.G.E. There were so many pple, but the stadium wasnt full. our seats were really quite far up, like at least 8 storeys high, but we had a pretty good view i guess.

ok, i kinda understood the game. kinda. it's like softball, or rounders. haha. except the pitcher throws at like 94 mph (which is faster than i drive, i DO NOT speed. haha. debbie begs to differ), and they throw overhand, not under. the diamond looked quite tiny, but then again, we were so far up.

the game started at like 7.15pm i think. at about 8.30, or 5 innings later. we noticed horrendous black clouds moving very very quickly towards us. it was seriously scary. pple around kept saying that the world was coming to an end. heh. it finally rained very very heavily at about 8.45 and they had to stop the game. everyone started moving up to the $7 seats cos it was sheltered. haha.

we waited and waited and decided to leave at 9.15pm. started to get quite scared cos the winds were so strong and there was lightning and it was pouring. no way was i driving home in that weather. we decided to go buy souvenirs at 9.15. i got a mini softball and a postcard. and then we decided to head home since we dunno when the game was gonna resume. started the long walk back down to ground level when we heard cheering, the white tarp they spread over the pitch was being removed, and they said that the game would resume at 9.50. we watched 2 more innings from the lower level, like those $40 seats or something. but it was very very cold. made friends with the guard and he allowed us to sit there. we didn't even finish the game. left at the 7th inning and the indians were getting trashed but the chicago cubs. when we left it was 10-4. the final score, i found out this morning on ESPN, was 12-8. owell. what an experience! go tribe! (:

driving home was an experience too. it was pitch dark and i really couldnt see further thatn like 30m with the high beam on. but thank God for safety. the rain stopped too, so my fears were allayed. got home at like midnight, and met the guys coming home from the millenniu, force ride night. esmond thinks we're super havoc cos debs and i keep wandering off by ourselves to other towns. heh. but cleveland was only 1 hour away.

so much has happened over the past few weeks, and i haven't had time to update about it. went to aurora premium outlets last thurday with debbie to shop. it was 1.5 hours away but it was pretty straight forward. we went crazy there, there were so many things to buy. like 13 boxes of dayspring christmas cards. heh. sharon just told me that my mum gets scared when i say im going shopping cos ill spend a lot. oops. it was the first time we took the car out alone and we were pretty scared but we just kept praying and thank God for safety.

everything's pretty random but i went to church on sunday too. lighthouse baptist church. it was only at 5-10 min drive out so it was pretty convenient. felt so good to sing hymns again, and listen to a sermon, but i didn't feel very welcome. maybe this is how visitors feel whenever they come to tengah. i just never noticed or understood cos i was never in their shoes. maybe that's why few of them come back. i should try to make pple feel more welcome next time. will try calvary baptist this sunday. service at 8am. i need a wake-up call! debbie's coming with me, so at least i won't be alone.

waking up early has always been a problem for me. i cant decide if i like working at 8, cos i'm forever rushing out of the house and always ending up having to drive. there was one day i fell asleep on the sofa the night before jumbo and grand left. i tot was talkign to jumbo, next thing i knew, he left and i was sleeping on the sofa. debbie was talking to grand all night but i think she fell asleep too. good thing she woke up at 7.30 and woke up me, if not i would have been late. there was another day i got woken up by the phone. my area supervisor was like 'carol, whre are you?' i looked at the clock, it was like 8.30. oops. so i just said i'll be right there. was 45 mins late. arrived at like 8.45am. sigh. i nv want to be late again! cant decide if i like the position of being supervisor, the shifts are quite good. at least i get to work early and i get off early. but there are days that i have to open and close, which makes it at least 15 hours, and i usually get back really late if i close. but well. i dunno. it's tiring and my shoe broke from walking too much. sigh.

just sent byrd off. cant believe all the thais are gone. they were really nice. they cooked well but i'm not like the freeloader-ang mohs who keep going over for dinner. haven't really made any other friends, which is quite sad. except danny, and we cant even have offs together cos he's my co-supervisor, so one of us will be at work at any one time. the guys are complaining that we always don't go out with them too. heh. but i'm going to columbus with nick on thurs i think, if he can finally decide that we're going there. heh. debbie was supposed to be off with us, but doris changed her schedule, so she has to work. sigh.

ok i've been typing way too much. i'll blog about niagara falls another time. cant seem to upload any photos though. stupid rec centre connection. i need to work at 3pm. it's 1.19pm. i'm hungry, maybe i'll go home and cook some stuff. my thai roommates went back, and they left their rice cooker behind. gone are the days where we have to cook rice in the same pot as everything else, and wait for one thing to cook at a time. we now have 2 pots, a pan, a rice cooker, a chopping board! (we were using the table the whole time. haha)

we were alone in our house for about a week, until this girl from the chezc (however you spell it) republic moved in, with 2 guys. i still havent met her though she arrived like 2 days ago, but i'm gonna ask the guys to move out, debbie told them they couldnt use our bathroom. hahaha.

gabe, isaac and charles are in new orleans on a 'mission trip' to clear up after hurricane katrina last year. hope they come back safe on sat. it must be a really good experience there. well, at least when gabe comes back, we can get our $931 from the car insurance, which brings the total cost of our car to $69 hahahah. thanx ambrose for getting into that accident! (: and gabe has my SDcard, which has my niagara falls pictures inside!

argh, i dun want to go to work. at least there're free fries tonight, and they're screening fantastic four. hope i can finish work by 10.30pm, or at least 11pm. sigh. i hate staying late all alone.

pictures

shall continue to post pictures of our apartment. every week (almost!) we'll go to the supermarket, and here's a glimpse of what we live on... heh.

couldn't help buying the chips ahoy after seeing our roommates eating it on the day we moved in... haha. and there's still our store of instant noodles that hasn't quite run out, yay! and of course, being stingy, the salt and whatever sauces we can kope from the cafeteria... haha...

no no, we don't just live on junk food, we stocked up pasta from our first supermarket trip and we still have like 2 bottles of sauce and 2 boxes of pasta. eggs are cheap here, like 48 cents for a dozen. we usually don't have time for pancakes in the morning, so i suspect this is gonna last a while. haha, seee, there's sweet and sour sauce too, and it's used, so we actually cook.

cereal is more or less our staple for breakfast, it was like 1.50 for that big box, and er... more junk food. brownie mix is cheap here la, like $2 a box, and we have an oven. at least we're not like our housemates. they bake a cake/brownie EVERY SINGLE night. siao.

this is our freezer, we have quite a lot of meat. once or twice, we forgot what was in there and our chicken turned bad. owellz.

the only shelf in the fridge we use... can u spot the krispy kremes? (: and the stupid milk which curdled before the expiry date and got me into some serious trouble. sigh. :(
see! we DO have vegetables! and brocolli is the only veg we eat here (and lettuce) cos all the other veg looks too foreign... haha.. what happened to kang kong and xiao bai cai! sigh.

ok, there are some things i didnt show, like the ben and jerry's.... which is our supper staple... heh.
